Event Details

For more than thirty years, scientists from various disciplines have warned that the constant increase in world population and exponential world economic growth are seriously threatening the future of our planet – its ecosystems, economies, and the well-being of our children. As we near the end of the first decade of the 21st century, the problems identified in seemingly disparate spheres - climate change, natural resource use, global health and government - are being brought together with a common goal: sustainable development.

Join our distinguished panel to assess the changes in lifestyles, production methods and consumption behaviour that will be required to meet the global sustainability challenge.

Speakers include: Klaus Hahlbrock, Professor emeritus of Biochemistry, Vice President of the Max Planck Society and author of Feeding the Planet; Stefan H. E. Kaufmann, Professor for Microbiology and Immunology, founding director of the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, Berlin and author of The New Plagues; Harald Müller, former adviser to Kofi Annan, Head of the Peace Research Institute, Frankfurt and author of Building a New World Order.

The Sustainability Project

The Sustainability Project is a new and comprehensive series of twelve books about the challenge of global sustainable development, written by leading international experts. Each title focuses in depth on one of the critical environmental, economic and social pressure points that must be addressed by individuals and policy makers in the next thirty years.Together, they give an unparalleled view of our responsibilities to the future.
